Esther Morris led the fight to provide women the right to vote. She succeeded in getting Wyoming to enact legislation for women's suffrage and they were the first state in the Union with equal voting rights. She was also a justice of the peace at South Pass City, the first woman to hold that job. She died in Cheyenne. Birthplace: Tioga County, New York.
Nellie Tayloe Ross became the first woman governor of any state in 1925, when her husband passed away just prior to the election.
